Prep Cook - Pacific Science Center - IMAX Cafe



Status: Part-Time  Prep Cook

Department: Cafe Division: Guest Services & Theaters Grade: 10


1) Purpose: Provide outstanding customer service and produce high quality and appealing food products in order to significantly enhance the guests’ experience.

2) Organizational Fit:

a) Reports to: Food Services Manager, Café Lead

b) Positions reporting to this position: None

c) Peers: Café/Catering staff, Guest Services Cashiers, IMAX Concessions Cashier, IMAX Ushers

d) Positions incumbent interfaces with inside and outside organization: Café Staff, various guests

e) Budget responsibility, including revenues and expenses: None

3) Key Job Responsibilities:

a) Produce high quality and appealing food products quickly and accurately with minimal supervision including hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups hot entrees

b) Assist with properly receiving, storing, and rotating of inventory stock.

c) Follow all sanitation and safety protocols, assuring proper hygiene and disease prevention using appropriate sanitation measures in the food prep area

d) Operate basic kitchen equipment/tools efficiently and safely

e) OTHER duties as assigned including internal catering

4) Major Challenges and Special Conditions: A Pacific Science Center uniform must be worn at all times and flexibility in scheduling is essential. Café Food Preparation Staff must be able to lift 35 pounds unassisted and stand for up to 8 hours.

5) Position Requirements: Knowledge, Education, Skills, Experience, Abilities

a) Required –Experience operating basic kitchen equipment/tools efficiently and safely; Dependable and punctual, highly motivated, energetic and responsible; Superior customer service skills; Comfortable with high volume kitchen preparation, multitasking and working at a fast pace; Smiling team player; Positive attitude; Service oriented; Flexible to respond to changing operational needs both in terms of management’s needs and customer’s needs; Food handlers permit (or willingness to obtain upon hiring)

b) Desired – High volume deli, café or similar food institution; Catering experience; previous cashier/money handling experience; High School Diploma or GED
