On-Call Catering Cook - Univ of Puget Sound




Position Title: On-Call Catering Cook
Department: Dining and Conference Services Faculty Appointment/Staff Status:

This is a temporary, on-call position to help supplement the workforce during busy times during the academic year.


Responsibilities:
  • Prepares a variety of food items for retail/board operation, catered events, special receptions, etc.
  • Garnishes and decorates food items and/or service lines for eye-appealing presentation of food.
  • Cleans kitchen and food storage areas, utensils, and equipment.
  • Operates mixers, ovens, choppers, shredders, steamers, grills, grinders, steam kettles, fry kettles and other food preparation equipment.
  • Anticipates and performs preliminary preparation necessary for meals the following day.
  • Properly labels and stores food in refrigerators, freezers, and storerooms.
  • Works with and instructs student staff in preparation, storage and handling of food items.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested by Assistant Director of Catering and Cafes. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Requirements:

 
Valid Washington State driver's license.

Valid Food Worker Card prior to starting.

Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; read and write simple sentences in conjunction with the adjustment of recipes.

Ability to pass pre-employment background inquiry, physical exam, drug screening, and strength test.

 
 
Education/Experience:

  • Two years of related experience. Related education may substitute for up to one year of experience.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to speak clearly, listen attentively, read, write, and understand English.
  • Physical Demands :  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 45 pounds.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, strenuous environment.
  • Be able to handle exposure to changing temperatures/extremes.
  • Be able to stand on one's feet for extended periods of time.
