Job Description: 1.Purpose: Pacific Science Center seeks staff in the Fountains Café to assist with food preparation from lunch items to catering requests. The café & catering food preparation staff must be capable of cooking and prepping for the café and catering events. The ideal candidate will have previous food preparation and catering experience. Strong culinary and presentation skills, experience with culinary set up/break down, high volume food preparation, and comprehension of culinary terms are highly desirable. There are two positions available at this time.



2.Organizational Fit:

a.Reports to: Food Services Manager, Café Lead

b.Compensation: $9.50/hour



3.Key Job Responsibilities:

a.Produce high quality and appealing food products quickly and accurately with minimal supervision including hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups hot entrees

b.Assist with properly receiving, storing, and rotating of inventory stock.

c.Follow all sanitation and safety protocols, assuring proper hygiene and disease prevention using appropriate sanitation measures in the food prep area

d.Operate basic kitchen equipment/tools efficiently and safely

e.OTHER duties as assigned including internal catering



4.Major Challenges and Special Conditions: A Pacific Science Center uniform must be worn at all times and flexibility in scheduling is essential. Café Food Preparation Staff must be able to lift 35 pounds unassisted and stand for up to 8 hours.


5.Position Requirements:

a.Required -Experience operating basic kitchen equipment/tools efficiently and safely; Dependable and punctual, highly motivated, energetic and responsible; Superior customer service skills; Comfortable with high volume kitchen preparation, multitasking and working at a fast pace; Smiling team player; Positive attitude; Service oriented; Flexible to respond to changing operational needs both in terms of management's needs and customer's needs; Food handlers permit (or willingness to obtain upon hiring)

b.Desired - High volume deli, café or similar food institution; Catering experience; previous cashier/money handling experience; High School Diploma or GED
