Description

1.Position Purpose: Pacific Science Center seeks Camp In Representatives to facilitate the operation of the Camp-In program and contribute to a pleasurable experience for Camp-In participants. Camp In Representatives contribute to the efficient operation of the Camp In program. Some duties include assisting with workshops, setting up and cleaning buildings, assisting with snack, and providing excellent customer service to participants. Ideal candidates have experience in customer service, high level of energy enthusiasm and initiatve, excellent customer service skills and is a smiling and professional team player. Candidates must be flexible and willing to take on a variety of tasks, a high school diploma (or equivalent) and a food handler's permit or willingness to obtain.



3.Organizational Fit:

a.Reports to: Youth & Family Programs Manager

b.Positions reporting to this position: None

c.Peers: IMAX Ushers, Cashiers, Science Interpreters

d.Positions incumbent interfaces with inside and outside organization: Guest Services evening staff, Camp In participants

e.Compensation: $9.48/hour



4.Key Job Responsibilities:

a.CUSTOMER SERVICE: Contributes to a pleasurable experience for Camp-In participants by performing front-line customer service by welcoming participants, providing directions and answering questions.

b.SCIENCE EDUCATION: Contributes to an engaging learning experience for Camp-In participants by exhibit interpretation

c.PROGRAM OPERATIONS: Provides for the efficient operation of the Camp-In program by

i.Assisting with meal service, classroom set-up, dance activity, group arrival and departure, t-shirt sales, traffic flow and custodial duties

ii.Staffing informational positions, such as the information desk, and floor positions for exhibit interpretation

iii.Monitoring assigned areas for security during program and sleeping hours (on a rotating basis)

d.Other duties as assigned.


5.Major Challenges and Special Conditions: Must be available to work most weekends February 4- June. Position requires working long shifts and late hours. Shifts can be up to 18 hours (time is provided to sleep on-site). At least 2 hours each night is spent outside, in all weather conditions. Must participate in a mandatory overnight training session February 16-17. Uniform required while on the job.



6.Position Requirements: Knowledge, Education, Skills, Experience, Abilities

a.Required –Experience in customer service; Flexible and willing to take on a variety of tasks; High level of energy, enthusiasm and initiative; Excellent public speaking skills; Excellent customer service skills; Smiling and professional team player; HS Diploma (or equivalent); Food handler’s permit or willingness to obtain

b.Desired – Bachelor’s degree in science, education or related field; Experience working with large groups of children; Experience in science or education
